Privacy Statement
EduHound.com is a free, private educational web site committed to protecting the safety and privacy of children, parents and teachers by providing a safe and secure on-line environment. We adhere to the CARU (Children's Advertising Review Unit) guidelines, including the guidelines on Internet advertising. While we make every effort to ensure our users' safety, we strongly encourage parents and teachers to monitor children's use of the Internet. Children should also be constantly reminded to never exchange personal information with other users on this or any other Web site.
We don't sell or distribute member information to anyone else, though we continually track and analyze data on our site. We use this information solely to develop the site and its features to best suit our visitors. Our information-collection practices are described below. Children visiting for the first time should ask their parents or teachers to study this page with them.
Eduhound Hotlist Registration
Signing up for EduHound HotList as a registered user is optional and free. Children, parents and teachers can feel safe using our site because the information we receive is for our eyes only. If at any time you, your child or class wants to stop participating in EduHound HotList, just notify us by email at info@eduhound.com. In this way, you can automatically and immediately remove your name and email address from our lists.
When someone signs up to use EduHound HotList, we ask for their first name, last name, email address, position, years in teaching (if applicable), a user (screen) name, a password.
The information we request helps us provide a more personalized experience for each member and gives us the data we need to ensure that our site content is appropriate for our audience.
This password-protected process was implemented for your safety on the Web. Once your information has been entered, you will be a registered user and can access all site features. However, if the information is not complete, you will not have access to content and features on the site.
Cookies And Log Data
"Cookies" are small files that remain in your computer's hard drive. We use cookies to help you "store" your password and to keep track of what steps you've completed while building or editing your HotList. You can then leave our site, and when you return, easily pick up where you left off.
EduHound.com also uses cookies for research, to show us which sections of the site are used the most. Cookies DO NOT contain or relay any personal information about our users (including names or e-mail addresses). They DO, however, help us track how visitors use this site. If you do not wish to receive these cookies, you can disable this feature by clicking on the preferences or options menu in your browser.
Log data collected on web servers within EduHound.com's control supplies EduHound.com with aggregate information about the number of visits to different pages on our site. We use this information only for improving our site and never sell, market, trade or otherwise exploit personally identifiable information, whether through third parties or our own company.
Links
EduHound.com contains "links" to other sites, and we make every effort to only link to sites that share our same high standards for educators, students and parents. Though we are extremely vigilant about ensuring the safety of these links, children should always check with an adult before linking to a new site.
Security
Because of its safety policy, EduHound.com does on occasion review and edit user account data to enforce compliance with rules of the site - such as issuing strikes against inappropriate language or behavior, and locking offenders out of the site.
We have taken steps to ensure that any personally identifiable information collected by EduHound.com is secure. This includes limiting the number of people who have physical access to our database servers, as well as electronic security systems and password protections, which guard against unauthorized access.
On-Line Safety
While we believe EduHound.com provides a safe experience for educators, students and parents, there are many other Internet sites that don't provide such reliable safety features. We encourage you to monitor children's use of the Internet and to become familiar with the Web sites your children and students visit. To help protect your children's privacy on the Internet, we suggest taking the following precautions:
- Remind your children and students never to give out personal information, such as name, address, e-mail addresses, passwords, school name or phone numbers without your permission. Also, encourage them to use unidentifiable nicknames (code names) when on-line.
- Get to know your children's on-line friends. If for any reason, you're uncomfortable about the contact, make sure your child knows to be wary of maintaining this on-line friendship.
- Reduce the risks of your child stumbling onto inappropriate material. Check into software programs that help schools and parents block access to on-line services and features that are adult in nature.
- Make sure your children or students know they should come to you if they encounter anyone or anything on the Internet that makes them feel uncomfortable or afraid.
