Certainly Heather! Holt, CNN Newsroom Give Free Video on Sept. 11 Attack
To High Schools During December, every U.S. public high school will receive a free educational video covering the Sept. 11 attacks. The video is provided courtesy of Holt, Rinehart and Winston, a publisher of textbooks and educational materials for grades 6-12, and CNN Newsroom, the network's daily program for classrooms. The tape features an introduction by U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige encouraging teachers to discuss the attacks in their classes. The video, September 11, 2001: A Turning Point in History - The First 30 Days, will be mailed to social studies departments or media specialists at the more than 16,000 U.S. public high schools. Curriculum support linking to the video segments is available online at http://www.CNNfyi.com, CNN's educational Web site for students and teachers. The materials include discussion activities to help students better understand the events of Sept. 11 and links to additional resources. The video opens with Paige's introduction, then moves to a montage of the attack and its immediate aftermath. Next are CNN Newsroom and CNN reports that, collectively, tell the story of the first 30 days, giving background information and historical context. All content has been screened to be age-appropriate for a secondary school audience. Nine areas are covered including: The President Responds; Rescue and Recovery; Target: Terrorism; A Glimpse of Islam; Consumer Confidence; Security vs. Freedom; The American Spirit; Remembering the Twin Towers; The War on Terrorism. Holt, Rinehart and Winston will offer an additional two-tape
set to schools beginning in February 2002. The set will include expanded
coverage, additional background information and a more detailed chronology
of events. For more information on the video set, call 1-800-225-5425.
