This week's topic is: ELECTION 2004 The Office of the Federal Register coordinates the functions of the Electoral College on behalf of the Archivist of the United States, the States, the Congress, and the American People. They have assembled a variety of information and statistics on presidential elections, past and present: http://www.archives.gov/federal_register/electoral_college/ Some sites to help in this effort: Project Vote Smart Covers candidates and elected officials in five basic categories: biographical information, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances and interest group ratings. http://www.vote-smart.org C-SPAN in the Classroom: Campaigns & Elections The site provides teachers with lesson guides and activities using the vast resources of balanced C-SPAN programming. http://www.c-span.org/classroom/govt/campaigns.asp Dirksen Congressional Center: Congress For Kids Democracy requires citizens to participate in their government, beginning with the duty to vote. Follow the Rhinos http://www.followtherhinos.com These big girls are currently traveling to the Phoenix Zoo from The Wilds Animal Park in Cumberland, Ohio. Notch was wild born in 1971 and was placed in captivity in 1974 at Kings Island in Ohio. She was there until they closed down the animal park and came to The Wilds in 1994. Half-Ear was also wild born in 1971, transported to Kings Island in 1974, and then to The Wilds in 1994. She has been with Notch her entire time in captivity. Both Notch and Half-Ear weigh around 4,500 pounds. They get a little grumpy in the Ohio winters, but should do well in the warmer Arizona climate. Enjoy!
