From the Desk of Judi!

This week's topic is:

2004 SUMMER OLYMPICS

The long journey of the Olympic Games began more than 2,700 years ago. Records of Olympic history show that the ancient Olympic Games were held in Greece as early as in 776 BC. The Summer Olympics run from Aug. 13-29, 2004.

Some sites to help in this effort:

  • Athens 2004 Olympic Games
As you explore the different themes presented in Life in Ancient Egypt look for examples of change and continuity, tradition and innovation.

    http://www.athens2004.com

  • Go for the Gold @ Scholastic
Celebrate the history of Athens and international competition as students learn about ancient history, send postcards, submit an essay on why their town would make a great future site and even catch up on Greek prefixes and suffixes.

  • Olympics Through Time
Presented by the Foundation of the Hellenic World, this site offers an overview of the Olympics, from the first organized athletic festivals in Minoan Crete to the present-day Olympic Games.
    http://agones.fhw.gr

  • Olympics: Athens 2004
A complete review of the Summer Olympic Games, including medal standings by nation, leading individual medal winners and a breakdown of medal winners in all major events
    . Also includes historical information.

This week features an exciting new Web site:

Color in Motion
http://www.mariaclaudiacortes.com

What's your favorite color? In this engaging and interactive Flash presentation, you'll learn all about colors and the way they affect communication. Claudia Cortes, the visionary behind this fun and educational experiment, succeeds on every level. There are three doors to open -- behind them you'll find a colorful world to explore. Inside the door labeled The Stars you'll find the colors, their profiles and what they mean. After you're finished learning about each one, head to The Movies section where each short clip presents a color's symbolism. Finally, The Lab offers the opportunity for you to play movie director, manage one of the stars, or just have fun playing with the Kaleidoscope, a cool toy that lets you create your own colorful changing patterns.

Enjoy!

Each week, I'll use this area to answer your questions, post announcements, and provide interesting input! So please email me at EduHoundWeekly@eduhound.com and watch for your answer here!
